Woodstock Hospital offers a wide range of screening and diagnostic examinations for the breast using various types of technology including digital radiography, breast ultrasound, breast biopsies and pre-operative localization of breast lesions. Mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, before it is detected by you or your doctor.
Screening Mammography is used to detect cancer in women who do not have any symptoms. This type of mammogram consists of two images of each breast. It can help find lumps or abnormal areas of breast tissue that may be too small to be felt by hand. Screening mammography monitors changes to the breast over time and can help find breast cancer at an early stage. It is not unusual to be called back from your screening Mammogram for specialized views and or an Ultrasound exam.
Diagnostic Mammography is used to evaluate a breast symptom or an abnormal clinical finding, such as breast lump, pain or nipple discharge; that has been found by yourself or family Physician. Diagnostic Mammography includes two images of each breast as well as additional magnification or compression views and breast Ultrasound.
