You may be concerned about hospital-acquired infections - infections that may pass from one patient to another and from the hospital into the community. WGH takes Infection Prevention and Control very seriously and has put procedures to reduce the risk of acquiring infections into place. Hospitals are safe and all hospitals will become safer as we are mandated to report our infection rates.
Infections cannot be prevented completely and most infections can be successfully treated. What is important, however, is that we do everything that is possible to prevent the spread of infections.
The number 1 way of stopping the spread of infections is "hand hygiene", and for this reason we have introduced a hand hygiene policy called "Just clean your Hands".
We hope that visitors, as well as patients and staff, will take the advice we are giving and help us to prevent the spread of infections.
Our "Just clean your Hands" campaign is asking you - visitors, patients and staff to wash your hands, using soap and water or the alcohol based hand sanitizers located through-out the hospital.
