The Maternal Child Unit welcomes over 900 new babies into the world each year. We provide individualized antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care within a family-centred framework. Holistic care provided within a multi-disciplinary team composed of obstetricians, midwives, family physicians, surgeons and highly skilled nursing staff, including lactation consultants. In our goal to achieve Baby Friendly status, as recognized by the WHO, we collaborate with Public Health to ensure a seamless transition to home.
We encourage you to attend our Pre-registration Clinic located on the Maternal Child/Women's Health Unit which is on the second floor of the hospital (the 2800 unit). The Pre-registration Clinic is offered on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3-7pm and Wednesdays from 3-10pm. A nurse will assist you to complete forms and review your birth plan. To ensure your place in the clinic, please call after your 30th week of pregnancy and make an appointment with Patient Bookings at 35 - 36 weeks into your gestation. Patient Bookings is open Monday to Friday between 8:00am to 5:30pm and can be reached at 519-537-2381. The Obstetrical Pre-registration Clinic is a 45-minute session with an Obstetrical Nurse. Our goal is to get to know you and your family's needs in a relaxed setting and provide you with a tour of the unit.
