One morning, Vicki Davey noticed a strange pucker in the skin underneath her left breast. She pointed out the pucker in her scheduled routine mammogram at Woodstock Hospital’s Breast Screening Clinic and then returned for an ultrasound that revealed a lobular carcinoma, a type of breast cancer.

Vicki was sent to see Dr. Gamal El-Saviti, a Woodstock Hospital Surgeon, who scheduled her for surgery. “Dr. El-Saviti took the time to ease my concerns about the surgery by explaining the procedure and how certain tools would be used to make the surgery less invasive,” shared Vicki.

For Vicki, the opportunity to receive surgery at Woodstock Hospital, meant care closer to home. “I was extremely fortunate to have a local hospital with the necessary equipment and talented professionals to address my concerns and remove the cancer.”

Woodstock Hospital is a full service community hospital that provides care to nearly 110,000 residents throughout Oxford County, leaving only the most complex and critical cases to be transferred to larger facilities out of the county. Donor support has allowed the hospital to invest in the technology needed to improve patient care and treat more patients, like Vicki.

From regular screening, to diagnosis, and surgery, Vicki’s cancer journey took place at Woodstock Hospital. Vicki’s story demonstrates how Woodstock Hospital is providing state-of-the-art care close to home, to our community.
